Insight into the Academic Industry
School is back in session. A city renowned for its institutions, groundbreaking research, and significant academic history, Boston is bustling with students again as the new school year officially kicked off earlier this month. While universities continue to host students year in and year out, the spaces in which these students learn and grow require renovations and updated technology to support students’ minds, research projects, and academic experiences.
Corderman & Company is proud to have had a significant role in a number of these spaces for notable academic clients throughout Boston and Cambridge. Providing construction management services for interior buildouts, our firm is involved in renovating and constructing academic spaces and ultimately elevating the standard for learning environments.
Building across the board. From administrative offices to lobbies and classrooms to labs, Corderman & Company has had the opportunity to support educational experiences for students as well as contribute to the need for innovative, inspiring spaces for the public, faculty, and visitors. Integrating both functionality and flexibility into the space, as well as supporting the architect’s design vision, our team works to construct an atmosphere conducive to the purpose and future occupant of the space.
Corderman offers the utmost attention to detail, a collaborative approach infused with communication and transparency, and the motivation to produce a fit out that exceeds expectations.
Raising the bar. Many of our projects continue to evolve regarding standards for sustainability, diversity, safety, and overarching project requirements. Academic spaces are no exception. With some of the strictest codes, safety regulations, and a stronger push to obtain LEED or WELL accreditations, there has been a significant move towards designing and building academic spaces with environmental and social impacts at the forefront of each project team’s mind. A more explicit focus on the well being of those who inhabit the space has been integrated into design features and subsequently requires an acute degree of quality workmanship to successfully execute.
Corderman & Company utilizes a diverse database of 300+ trade partners, all of which are highly skilled in and dedicated to their craft. We are proud to work with project partners that continue to elevate and uphold these standards, aligning with our mission as a firm and developing a camaraderie as the combined project team works towards the same goals.
Doing our homework. Though school is traditionally out for the summer, research projects and classes nevertheless persist. While most students vacate the campus, there are often still lab spaces, classrooms, and offices that remain occupied during these quieter months, creating a logistical challenge for Corderman and our trade partners performing work in adjacent academicspaces. The teams work closely and fastidiously to maintain the project schedule, preparing for the inevitable influx of students in the fall, while also preserving the budget. Our project team balances efficiency while upholding the highest standards of safety. This is accomplished namely through direct and clear site signage, thoughtful sound and dust mitigation, constant communication, diligent documentation, and detailed scheduling to avoid conflicts and minimize disruption.
