WHAT IS USHER SYNDROME?

Usher syndrome (USH) is a rare genetic disease that causes combined and progressive blindness and deafness. Presently, there is no cure.

It is estimated that there are 400,000 people worldwide living with Usher syndrome and only 1% have been identified.

WHAT IS THE USHER SYNDROME SOCIETY?

The Usher Syndrome Society is a non-profit that uses storytelling through the arts, educational events, and collaboration to raise public awareness and funds for research to find treatments and a cure for Usher syndrome (USH).

The Usher Syndrome Society was founded in 2012 by Nancy Corderman following the Usher syndrome diagnosis of two of Nancy and David Corderman’s four children.

Since its inception, the Usher Syndrome Society has played a major role in educating the public about Usher syndrome to bring it to the forefront of rare disease research. Through creative mediums like photojournalism and film, as well as hosting unique experiential fundraising events, the USH Society shares the stories of those living with Usher syndrome and raises money to accelerate cutting edge vision and hearing research.
