Safety Manager

Corderman & Company, one of Boston’s top construction management firms, is seeking an exceptional and vigilant Safety Manager to take the company to the next level by leading and managing the company’s safety initiatives to ensure the safety of all employees, project staff, subcontract partners, and project sites.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the expansion and development of the Company’s safety vision, objectives, strategies, policies, and procedures to build a safety culture dedicated to behaviors that lead to best-in-class results.

  • Provide proactive leadership and assume ownership of developing a best-in-class safety culture by:

    • Clearly articulating the Company’s safety vision and program

    • Anticipating problems and providing solutions

    • Sharing knowledge with & providing training to all levels of management, field staff, & project teams

    • Interacting with clients, subcontractors, and inspector

    • Creating an environment of learning, mentoring, & empowerment to promote employee engagement

  • Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions and conclusions, and monitors results to make improvements or take corrective action.

  • Ensure staff safety and health training meet the needs of internal and external (client and regulating entities) requirements.

  • Conduct accident and incident investigations, determining root causes and making recommendations for preventive recurrence.

  • Manages hazard assessment activities by:

    • Conducting and/or supervising safety inspections

    • Analyzing inspection/incident data to identify opportunities & develop preventative/corrective practices

  • Develops annual plans and budgets for safety and health initiatives, including training.

  • Oversee the management and administration of training records and ensure all personnel have up-to-date certifications.

  • Manage safety equipment, ensuring every job site is fitted with proper PPE and safety supplies, including first aid kit, walk-off mats, and site signage, plus other site-specific safety protections.

Other Functions

  • Manage workers comp and vehicle claims

  • Manage administration of motor vehicle records program

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, Construction Management or related field required;

  • A minimum of 5 years experience in a position that required safety as an integrated responsibility;

  • Certified safety professional with CHST or CSP designation required;

  • Minimum of OSHA 500 - trainer course in Construction Safety Standards;

  • Red Cross or American Heart Association First aid trainer required;

  • Experience in Root Cause Analysis Incident Investigations required;

  • Proficient in Procore and Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, Outlook, Project);

  • Proactive, self-motivated, innovative, collaborative, multi-tasker, creative and analytical;

  • Proven ability to excel in a fast-paced construction environment;

  • Exceptional verbal, written, and presentation skills;

  • Strong team player with a positive attitude;

  • Outstanding attention to detail and an ability to break down complex product offerings and communicate them effectively;

  • Ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy, ensuring the addressing of workplace safety issues and programs
