HR Manager
JOIN OUR CORDERMAN TEAM
Corderman & Company, a leading Boston-based construction management firm and multi-year Top Places to Work award winner, is hiring an HR Manager to lead and strengthen our people operations. This is a hands-on role with no direct reports, working directly with the leadership team.
In this unique opportunity, you will take full ownership of HR at Corderman & Company, improving systems, elevating onboarding and performance reviews, and building consistency between office and field teams.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
LEAD & IMPROVE CORE HR OPERATIONS
Take ownership of all HR functions: recruiting, onboarding, compliance, employee relations, performance management, employee record-keeping, and policy/handbook maintenance.
Audit and improve existing HR processes to create structure, clarity, and consistency across teams
Maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws
Administer benefits enrollment and changes in coordination with vendors and Finance
Oversee workers’ compensation, leaves of absence, and safety documentation
Administer pre-employment background checks, drug testing, and I-9 compliance (including audits and E-Verify)
Manage updates to employee intranet
Recommend workflow improvements to streamline HR operations
BUILD BETTER PEOPLE SYSTEMS
Design and implement a stronger onboarding program
Develop and implement project-based closeout reviews that capture team feedback and drive improvement
Partner with leadership to connect performance feedback with development and compensation discussions
Build systems for ongoing employee check-ins and growth tracking, expanding upon the current annual review and mentorship programs
Assess training needs across the organization and spearhead accordingly
STRENGTHEN RECRUITING & WORKFORCE PLANNING
Lead full recruitment life-cycle for office and field roles; continuously refine sourcing and interviewing approaches
Partner with leadership to forecast staffing needs based on project schedules
Manage relationships with educational institutions to build strong pipelines
CHAMPION HR IN THE FIELD
Maintain consistent HR support across all job sites
Visit Boston job sites regularly to stay connected to team needs
Track OSHA and other safety certifications, training completion, and renewals
Partner with Field Operations to ensure all documentation and training are complete and audit-ready
WHAT YOU WILL BRING
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience)
7-10+ years of HR experience, ideally in construction or another project-based industry
Proven ability to manage all HR functions independently in a small-to-mid-size company
Strong understanding of employment law, benefits, and compliance
Hands-on experience coordinating benefits, partnering with Finance to ensure accuracy and compliance
Familiarity with OSHA and construction-related safety requirements
Experience building or improving onboarding, training, and performance programs
Excellent communication, organization, and follow-through skills
Ability to work effectively with both field and office teams and partner closely with leadership
Proficiency with Microsoft Office
SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, or PHR certification preferred (or equivalent combination of experience and formal HR training)
Ability to administer and pass pre-employment background check and drug screening
